In a major development, Indian cricket icon Virat Kohli is reportedly considering retirement from Test cricket. According to The Indian Express, the former India captain has already conveyed his intentions to the BCCI, although the board has requested him to reconsider.

“He has made up his mind and has informed the board that he is moving on from Test cricket. The BCCI has urged him to rethink as the crucial England tour is coming up. He is yet to revert on the request,” a BCCI source told Express Sports.

This news comes shortly after Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from Test cricket, leaving India potentially without two of their most experienced red-ball players ahead of the five-match Test series in England.

Shubman Gill Likely to Take Over Test Captaincy

With Rohit stepping down, reports suggest that Shubman Gill is the leading contender to captain the side. The young top-order batter has cemented his place in the Test squad and is seen as a long-term prospect for leadership. Gill has scored 1,893 runs in 59 Test innings, with five centuries and a batting average of 35.06.

If Kohli proceeds with his retirement, India could face the daunting England series with a relatively inexperienced batting lineup, marking a significant transition phase in Indian Test cricket.
