The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially confirmed that the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will resume on Saturday, May 17, following a one-week suspension due to escalating border tensions between India and Pakistan. The tournament will recommence with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) taking on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Bengaluru at 7:30 PM IST.
In a statement issued on Monday, May 12, the BCCI announced that the decision to resume the league was taken “after extensive consultations with government and security agencies, and with all the key stakeholders.”
Revised Schedule and Venues
The remainder of IPL 2025 will feature 17 matches, including two double-headers (both on Sundays), to be played across six venues: Bengaluru, Delhi, Jaipur, Mumbai, Lucknow, and Ahmedabad. The final is scheduled for June 3, while the playoff venues are yet to be announced.

Change in Home Venues
Several franchises, including Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), and Punjab Kings (PBKS), will not be playing their remaining home fixtures at their designated venues. Instead:
- CSK’s final home game vs RR will be played in Delhi on May 20.
- SRH’s final game vs KKR will also be in Delhi on May 25.
- PBKS will play all three of their remaining matches in Jaipur, as Mullanpur is not among the selected venues for the resumption.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians (MI), who remain in playoff contention, will play their final home match at Wankhede Stadium against DC on May 21.
Player Availability and Challenges Ahead
The sudden halt in the tournament on May 9, after the PBKS vs DC match was disrupted, led to several overseas players returning home. With international commitments approaching—particularly the World Test Championship Final on June 11—it remains uncertain how many foreign stars will return.
Particular attention will be on Australian and South African Test players, who may be unavailable for the playoffs or final due to national duty.
