On Friday, May 16, the Rohit Sharma stand was officially inaugurated at Mumbai’s iconic Wankhede Stadium. The event was graced by several dignitaries, including Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and veteran politician Sharad Pawar, who were present on stage to honor the cricketing legend.
It was a deeply special occasion for Rohit Sharma, who was joined by his entire family — his mother, father, wife Ritika Sajdeh, and brother. The Mumbai Indians squad was also present, making the moment even more memorable.
The ceremony took an emotional turn when Rohit addressed the crowd with a heartfelt speech before inviting his parents on stage to press the buzzer that unveiled the stand. His wife Ritika was visibly moved and could not hold back tears, reflecting the depth of the moment.
Ritika Sajdeh’s Emotional Moment
Ritika’s emotional reaction captured the hearts of many as she struggled to hold back tears on stage. Rohit had previously promised that his parents would attend the inauguration, despite their usual preference for watching matches from home due to nerves and discomfort with stadium crowds.
"Usually they prefer watching matches from home because they get too nervous at stadiums. They don’t like leaving the house too much. I told them that when a stand with my name is inaugurated at the Wankhede Stadium, they have to come and sit in it," Rohit shared in an interview with journalist Vimal Kumar.
True to their word, Rohit's parents were present to witness the event, a testament to their support and pride. During his speech, Rohit expressed gratitude to his parents and acknowledged the sacrifices they made during his childhood, making the occasion even more poignant.
