Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Director Mo Bobat has confirmed that Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood is still recovering from a shoulder niggle and is currently undergoing rehabilitation back home in Australia. This update comes just ahead of RCB’s crucial IPL 2025 clash against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), scheduled for May 17 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
The IPL season this year has faced unprecedented challenges, including a one-week suspension due to rising cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan.
Hazlewood Aiming for Playoff Return
According to reports, Hazlewood is expected to rejoin the RCB squad by the end of next week, potentially making himself available just in time for the playoffs.
Speaking on RCB’s official Bold Diaries show, Bobat said,
"Josh has been managing a shoulder niggle for a couple of weeks now. He’s still in Australia, working through his rehab. At this moment, we don’t have any concrete updates, so we will have to take it day by day."
Bobat also highlighted the challenges faced by the team in managing last-minute travel and security arrangements, especially for international players, while commending the management and support staff for their swift actions to minimize disruption to the squad’s preparations.
It is important to note that Hazlewood missed RCB’s previous fixture against Chennai Super Kings due to his injury. Throughout the IPL 2025 season, he has been one of RCB’s standout bowlers, claiming 18 wickets in just 10 matches. This impressive tally currently places him third among the leading wicket-takers in the tournament.
With Rajat Patidar leading RCB into their crucial upcoming clash against a strong Kolkata Knight Riders side, the potential return of Hazlewood ahead of the playoffs would provide a timely boost to the team’s plans.
It will be interesting to see exactly when the ace pacer rejoins the squad. Fans will be eagerly hoping for Hazlewood’s swift comeback as RCB push toward their elusive first IPL title.
