BCCI Eyes May Window for Resumption

Following escalating India-Pakistan border tensions, the BCCI has officially suspended IPL 2025 for one week. The suspension comes after match disruptions and logistical challenges caused by the temporary closure of airports in northern India.

In a statement issued on May 9, the BCCI emphasized national security over sport, stating:
"While cricket remains a national passion, there is nothing greater than the Nation and its sovereignty, integrity, and security."

Despite speculation around potential August or September windows—overlapping with India’s Bangladesh tour, The Hundred, and the Caribbean Premier League—the BCCI is currently focused on completing the remaining 16 matches within May, should the situation improve. A ceasefire in the coming days could lead to a condensed schedule featuring double-headers.

"The league has been suspended for one week. We are not looking beyond that at this stage," a senior BCCI official told Cricbuzz, hinting at cautious optimism.

Meanwhile, players and officials from PBKS and DC were quietly evacuated from Dharamsala via train after the Punjab capital’s airport closure, underscoring the seriousness of the situation. Whether overseas players will return if the tournament resumes remains uncertain and is being left to individual franchises to manage.

As things stand, all eyes are on the next three days, with the BCCI expected to issue further updates following consultations with the Indian government and security agencies.
